By Sam Coxon, GB athlete and Ocean5 rower
Recently, I visited the island of Tenerife in the Canaries looking for a bit of sun and smooth roads to do some quality triathlon training. Tenerife is essentially a volcano so naturally very hilly. The only way is up or down….nothing in between which makes it a perfect playground and training destination for professional cycling teams and triathletes.
During my 5 days of training on the island, I racked up a some impressive stats:
Bike- 211.9 miles (total climb 30,384 ft, that’s higher than Mount Everest!)
Run- 26.5 miles
Swim- 14.927 km
Sam continues to train for his Ironman World championships in September and also for the Ocean5’s Atlantic Crossing in December.
