By Sam Coxon, GB athlete and Ocean5 rower
Ocean5 rower Sam was pleased to place in the top 10 in a 10k race recently with a time of 35:46 into storm Gareth! Sam will be running the Lulworth Cove Ultra Marathon on 23rd March which is 28 miles long with an 8000 ft ascent. He will also run the London marathon in April, aiming for a finish time of 2 hours 45 minutes
Sam explains his training schedule below:
Some days I can be training for up to 5 hours a day, which generally involves a 3-4 hour bike with a run off. It can be hard to motivate myself to get out there and start moving the pedals round or even putting one foot in front of the other but in my mind I think about the feeling of crossing the finish line knowing I couldn’t of done anything else more to get me where I am!
This will be similar with the row. Every time I get on the oars I will be imagining that finish line in Antigua where our family and friends await us.
Every single session makes you stronger physically, mentally and more resilient to what ever the weather throws at you. The more you sweat in training the less you bleed in battle!
